Artist Statement
My visual poetics is rooted in affection — and in mass culture: advertising images, magazine covers, posters, comic books, rock music, cinema, television, the ordinary objects of everyday life. Also in the collections accumulated over a lifetime, without ceremony, through the appropriation and transformation of these available universes.
I work with the common and the familiar, setting up dialogues through drawing, painting, collage, and assemblage — techniques that speak to one another, with color as a fundamental element. My work does not pursue complexity. On the contrary: the poetic narrative I seek is simple enough to hold shared ideals, images in which the other can recognize something of themselves.
In this sense, my art might be described as a practice of joining, of dialogue, of expression. Each work is a ligature of pigments, affections, thoughts, and memories — and, why not, a touch of delirium.
